Introduction
Mandsaur district located in Ujjain Division, is an outstanding
district not only of Madhya Pradesh but of the entire nation due to
its fundamental specialties. The district has attained distinctive
repute due to its historical significance, geographical and cultural
specialties, agricultural output, minerals and mining, water
conservation efforts, educational progress and improvement in
literacy rates.
Historical Background
Located on the bank of Shivna river in the verdant, lush green Malwa
area present day Mandaur was famously known as 'Dashpur" in the
ancient times. Many dynasties have ruled this land and it has been
the 'Karmabhoomi' of brave, chwalrows and just kings like
Yashodharman. There are many sites in Mandsaur city and district
many ancient temples, statues, Bodh Vihars, gateway pillars,
inscreptions etc stand as symbols of the glorious past and a
testimony of the antiquity of Dashpur and the district. The world
famous eight faced statue of" Lord Pashupatinath" is located
here Gandhisagar dam is a notable feature in this district.
Geographical Location
Mandsaur district is located in the North-Western part of Madhya
Pradesh State. East of this district, lies Jhalawad district of
Rajsthan and to its west is located Pratapgarh tehsil of Rajasthan
State. On its north, it is bound by Neemuch district while to its
south lies Ratlam district. It is situated between 23°46' and 24°45'
North latitude and 74°44' and 75°54' East longitude on the
North-Western extremity of Madhya Pradesh and located at
approximately 453 metres above M.S.L. The total area of the district
is 5521 sq. kms. The district has been divided into the following
Tehsils : Mandsuar, Sitamau, Suwasara, Garoth, Bhanpura and
Malhargarh. The average annual rainfall in the district is 961mm.
Economic Situation
(A) Agriculture :
Agriculture is the primary occupation in the district. Agriculture
contributes significantly to the economy of the district. The main
crops are Wheat, Oats, Maize, Gram, Coriander, Groundnuts, Soyabean,
Opium, Oilseeds and Garlic etc. Fruits are also grown in the
district and includes Papaya, Mangoes, Lemons ,Guavas etc. Most of
the people engaged in agriculture are from the Patidar, Muslim,
Rajput, Gurjar and Meena communities. The soil is mostly black
cotton soil and the rivers Chambal, Shivna, Rewa, Retam flow through
it. Farmers in the district are aware of water management
techniques, chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Animal husbandry
occupation supplements agricultural activities. Agriculture product
markets (Krishi Upaj Mandis) have been established to enable farmers
to get a fair price on their agricultural output. There are also
godowns for storage of agricultural products for the same purpose.
(B) Industry
The
district has scope for industrial development. There are extensive
lime and shell stone deposits in the district. The mineral is used
in the manufacture of slate pencils. There are many units in
Mandsaur and nearby village which manufacture these slate pencils.
Large scale industries in the district include sugar mill, starch
factory, Cotton Spin Factory, Steel industry, Textile mill, Spinning
mill, Hindustan Soya ltd. etc. Various small scale industries like
incense and candlestick manufacture, manufacture of mats, polythene,
twines, furniture, jaggery, card board, bangles, alongwith bakeries,
flour mills, oil mills etc. have been established in the district
which provide employment to hundreds of people.
M.P. Industrial development corporation is going to establish food
processing plant has begun at Jaggakhedi village, 5 km away from
Mandsaur city, which will ensure adequate means and opportunities
for the storage and processing of fruit and vegetables and also
ensure a fair return to the growers.

same is lowest at Bhanpura Block.

females is 48.88.

rural population in Mandsaur block while the same is lowest in
Bhanpura Block.

In order to
